UNIX System Administrator - Linux, Solaris, VERITAS VCS, Volume Manager

My client in Glasgow are urgently seeking an experienced UNIX system Administrator to sit on site with a banking client.

The successful candidate will be a production support System Administrator and will be supporting 18,000 servers (12k Linux, 6k Solaris) across the whole production area for the bank, therefore you will need to be from a background where you have supported large environments.

The successful candidate will be an expert with the VERITAS tool set - in particular Volume Manager or Cluster server (VCS).

Shift basis - 7am - 7pm, on call rota 1 weekend in 3 to be worked.

Key Tasks:
Provide 2nd line Production Unix support to all business areas including Equities, FX, FI, Commodities, Risk and Finance and Credit/Rates. This may include but is not limited to:

-Looking at HPSC ticket queues for 2nd line Unix from 08:00-16:00 that would include but is not limited to:
-Looking at performance related issues
-OS Patching
-Problem solving
-Cluster installation and configuration
-Proactive maintenance
-Audit/security resolution
-Proactive capacity management/performance issues

Skills/Experience:
-Excellent knowledge of Microsoft product set
-Excellent understanding of Solaris and Linux operating systems
-Good understanding of TCPIP Network architecture
-Good understanding of DNS, NTP, DHCP
-Good understanding of Clustering concepts (VCS)
-Excellent understanding of Veritas VM, FS, VCS
-Basic understanding of ITIL best practices for IPC
-Good shell scripting knowledge (bash/ksh)
-Understanding of Perl
-Understanding of LDAP
